Blue Tit Babies

Page

It’s early summer 2012 and with little warning, we’ve found ourselves parents to five!

They’ve been very popular with readers so I’ve given them a dedicated page all to themselves so you can keep up with their progress here or return back here if you want your baby bird cuteness fix at a later point.

Our baby birds are blue tits (parus caerulus), a common garden bird in the UK even though we’d never had any visit before this nest was made.  They’re brightly coloured which is fairly unusual in UK birds.  For more information about the species then visit these websites here and here.

If you find yourself a parent to a baby bird or are just curious on the hows then we’ve found that this article really helpful in raising our brood, it’s from the Wildlife Information Network and Wildpro®.  It has everything from feeding to accommodation to fledging.  Just remember that in most instances, you should leave baby birds alone, they’re usually just fledgers and still under the watchful eye of the parents.  If you’re concerned or they’re clearly injured then phone the appropriate rescue service in your country before taking any action.  Check the advice given here.

After reading that sentence, you might be wondering quite how we ended up taking care up of so many babies so you better start reading up, here they are in date order (oldest first) so you can follow their story:
