Beautifully Simple

As I’ve previously confessed, I love the small, simple things of life.  I’m not one to be wooed by complicated, pretentious or over the top fancy.  Mind you that isn’t to say that I don’t like it when something that promises to be hideously complicated turns out to be beautifully simple or the beautifully simple finishes as something fancy and complicated looking.

I like it when you put together the basic, simple, small steps and you end up with something amazing.  (This unfortunately rarely happens with flatpack furniture for some reason.)

This is the latest thing to capture my imagination.  It’s knitted and despite all the sls and pssos looking threatening and complicated on every row it is deliciously simple.

You’ll end up with a long line of garter stitch with mysterious little bumps along it.  Now fold it up as directed and look what you have!  Make several of these and appliqué to knitted projects such as baby toys and hot water bottle covers or attach them to the end of twisted cords for a  fancy finish.  I’m hooked!  (And it’s not even crochet!  (Sorry, that was a VERY bad pun.))

So are you ready?  Get your needles out and have a go.  If I can make these then anyone can, honestly.

Use a standard gauge DK yarn and 3.25 mm needles.

Cast on 55 sts.

Knit 1 row.

K4, sl1, k2tog, psso, *k8, sl1, k2tog, psso*, repeat from * to * to last 4 sts, k4.

K3, sl1, k2tog, psso, *k6, sl1, k2tog, psso*, repeat from * to * to last 3 sts, k3.

K2, sl1, k2tog, psso, *k4, sl1, k2tog, psso*, repeat from * to * to last 2 sts, k2.

K1, sl1, k2tog, psso, *k2, sl1, k2tog, psso*, repeat from * to * to last 1 st, k1.

*Sl1, k2tog, psso*, repeat to end.

5 sts on needle.

Break yarn and run through the remaining stitches, draw up tight and secure.

Stitch side seam.

Et voilà!

Isn’t that cute?!

I love it!
